particular actor. I am forever grateful that The Rockford Files did not
get revived.

I have no idea. Looking it up, it get direct-to-series order by MTV as
an animated series. In the original, it got cancelled before the father
died (because Chris Rock was hoping it would get renewed again) with
Rock talking them into giving him a budget for a blow-out final episode.
I didn't like season 4 anyway, which had some truly stupid story lines
for the mother character (always the weakest character).

Cleese is writing this for his daughter. I have no idea where this will
be broadcast; BBC didn't order it.

I just read the Wikipedia article on the original. Cleese spent a
phenomenal amount of time on the original that he wasn't paid for. He
subsidized it with all the commercial work he got. But he made something
for the ages. They also filmed about double what's usually filmed for a
half-hour episode and then spent many weeks in editing.

I don't see how Cleese will be able to recreate any of that.

Actually, I think he's writing it WITH his daughter. At least that's what I remember (perhaps incorrectly) from the interview I saw several weeks back.. I just found an interview where he mentions that he has been writing with his daughter for 16 years but he doesn't explicitly say that she is a writing partner on Fawlty Towers:

I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt on that point. After all, he's got decades more experience now and he still seems as sharp as ever so I think it's reasonable to assume he will figure out a way to make something he's not ashamed of with the resources at hand.

concept of the show - literally the only thing the two shows have in
common is the name. Nothing else.
