He wasn’t. He was a completely different species. It just happens to look
exactly like Orions. I swear.

I thought they were enemies of the Federation? Also, does it strike
anyone as odd that this Star Trek harkens back to 50's scifis where they
have more "Earthy" characters and overwrought emotions? The original Star
Trek, the best show, people were mature, they had (except in extreme
situations) childish emotions in-check. Greater professionalism.

Yeah, pikes crew is more like kids at summer camp.
