A video is making the rounds of TikTok influencer Hannah Ayla describing her
encounter with a man on the streets of San Francisco. The video begins with
the classic Gen-Z line, "I'm literally shaking right now". In a typical TikTok
video, that line would be followed by a tale of misgendering, toxic
masculinity, or some other absurd microagression, but in this case, the
incident she describes (assuming that it happened as she describes) is
actually quite serious:

Normally, one should be skeptical of a story like this, but she does live in
San Francisco, which ups the believability quotient significantly. After all,
this is the sort of thing that *does* happen on a daily basis in that town. If
she lived in a normal neighborhood, it would be unthinkable that some man
would just walk up to her, spit in her face, and threaten to rape her. As
Jason Aldean would say, try that in small town.

These kinds of things don't happen in small towns, or even medium-sized towns,
but in San Francisco, it's gotten to the point where it would be a shock if
you lived there for a few months and *didn't* get randomly accosted by a
lunatic on the street at least once. So although it's hard to know if this
woman's tale really happened, it's certainly well within the realm of
believability.

That's also why it's hard to have sympathy for the typical San Francisco
resident who has this kind of typical San Francisco experience. These are, in
almost every case, leftists who vote for leftist politicians who promise to
make their communities less safe. They vote for this. They choose it. They
literally ask for it. And then they get what they asked for. My capacity for
pity has, I confess, limits, and residents of San Francisco live outside of
those limits at this point.

Their communities don't have to be the disgusting, crime-infested wastelands
that they've become. This is what the people in those communities have chosen.
It's what they've done to themselves and it's what they continue to do.

But wait, you say. How do you know she's a leftist? She could be a young,
conservative white woman living in San Francisco. One of the three people in
that category in the city. That's possible. Technically. But in this case my
intuition was correct.

After saying things like that, she then she walks out of her house and gets
attacked by a psychotic vagrant on the streets of San Francisco and I'm
supposed to do what? Weep for her? They say you can't judge a book by its
cover but once again, we find that you can do precisely that most of the time.
If you assumed that a young white woman living in San Francisco would be a
smug, insufferable leftist who makes videos mocking Christians and people who
live in small towns... well, your assumption is as accurate as it was always
destined to be.

This is, in other words, exactly the kind of person who has made San Francisco
into the toxic dump it is today. Now she's crying about the consequences of
her own choices.

Has she learned her lesson, though? Is this her awakening moment? Are we
alienating someone who has seen the error of her ways?

No. Of course not.

Shortly after posting the video of her shaking in tears, recounting her
traumatic experience, her next move was to post a series of follow-up videos
where she lectures "racist and anti-Semitic internet commenters" who she says
have been making "bigoted assumptions". This is her priority after having been
assaulted and threatened with rape by a guy on the street.

In these subsequent videos (which have since been scrubbed from her TikTok
account), she claimed her attacker was a "well-dressed, well-groomed white
man".

Oh, yeah. Sure. A well-dressed white man. We know those are the people who are
making our cities unlivable. Gotta watch out for those well-dressed white men.
I mean, every day brings another video of well-dressed white men randomly
assaulting and harassing pedestrians, right? It's always a well-dressed white
man.

The funny thing here is if she'd just said it was a white man, we could
believe it. There are plenty of meth-blasted white vagrants in San Francisco
and every other major city. But she had to throw in well-dressed and
well-groomed because she didn't want anyone to think her attacker was homeless
because, after all, the homeless are a marginalized group, they're victims,
and she couldn't allow her story to be used to smear the good name and
reputation of homeless drug addicts.

Whatever actually happened to Hannah Ayla, we are left with this basic truth:
Every community is the kind of community that it wants to be. If the people of
San Francisco actually want to live in a safe, clean, beautiful city where law
and order prevail, if they prioritized this as a community, then San Francisco
would be safe and clean and law and order would prevail. It really is that
simple.

In fact at least in MY neck of the woods MOST homeless drug addicts in
the worst part of town are in fact white. While there are
over-represented minorities in that category the fact remains most are
actually white for the simple reason that in society generally they
ARE the majority and not just 51% either.

ago when they made the decision to move north from SF with little 3
year old me (and my brother on his way) and it's strangest the closest
I've been back is to visit cousins in the Mt Hermon area (which is
between San Jose and SF) in all the years since. It's not as if my
memories of SF are clear after all...

From stories like this it seems I dodged a bullet - hopefully not
literally.

There was a show recently-- and I cannot for the life of me remember which
one-- where you could see in the scenes of the characters talking in a car as
it drove down the street all the tents and garbage and staggering zombie in
downtown L.A. and I was amazed that they didn't do anything to try and hide it
from the camera. Most shows and movies set in L.A. still go out of their way
to present the city as a sun-drenched playland of palm trees and beach girls
in bikinis.

Given how rampant the encampments are, I wonder if the producers of
Lincoln Lawyer gave the residents of the encampments money to relocate
somewhere else for a few days while they were shooting exteriors.

I also noticed the main character driving his convertible across a
bridge I've never seen before. I suspect it's that new bridge - 6th
Street? - that had the rough opening. If so, it seems to be usable now
for regular motorists, not just for stunt-racing. Hmm. Just did a quick
search on YouTube for videos showing the 6th Street bridge and it does
indeed seem to be the one I saw on Lincoln Lawyer.
