CNN appears set to name a new CEO in the coming days after the leftist
network fired their last CEO over the summer following a damning profile
piece and a town hall debacle involving former President Donald Trump.

Puck News reported that as early as tomorrow, CNN is expected to name former
New York Times Company CEO and BBC director general Mark Thompson to be the
networks next chairman and CEO.

The report said that Thompson has a reputation for restructuring legacy
media assets and pursuing innovative growth strategies and that he could not
be more different than the networks last CEO, Chris Licht.

Thompson deftly architected a plan that rescued the business at The New
York Times from its darkest financial hour in generations, the report
added. His various restructurings and reorgs repositioned the Times Co. as a
product-first company that successfully built out a portfolio of lifestyle
businesses that supported the news gathering organization.

Licht was fired from the company by Discovery CEO David Zaslav just 16 months
after being picked for the position.

For a number of reasons things didnt work out and thats unfortunate,
Zaslav said. Its really unfortunate. And ultimately thats on me. And I
take full responsibility for that.

Zaslav told employees that CNN is in the process of conducting a wide
search for a new leader that could take a while.

Lichts tenure at CNN was rough from the start. Weeks after Licht took over
the reins, the cable news giants attempt at launching a streaming service
failed after a month in operation, attracting fewer than 10,000 daily users.
The CNN executive also faced criticism from his employees and poor ratings
performances in the news channels primetime slots.

Familiar faces on the network, such as longtime journalist Brian Stelter and
host Don Lemon, were axed under Lichts reign. The tumultuous leadership of
Licht came to a boiling point when the network hosted a town hall with former
President Donald Trump in May. Leftist critics ripped the company for giving
Trump a platform. Politicians and media personalities from Alexandria
Ocasio-Cortez to Joe Scarborough were angered by CNNs decision to host Trump
on the platform that has consistently offered friendly coverage to Democrats.

The irony is that since CNN stopped being a news organization around the
turn of the century, they have to rely on somebody else to tell us who
their new CEO is.

I dunno - I thought CNN's golden year was 1991 (Iraq, Russian coup,
end of the Soviet Union) but 2001 particularly following a certain
September day was pretty memorable.

I don't remember watching CNN back in 1991 the same way I did in 2001.
Probably because it went so different with 1991 just being basic news
coverage of major events while 2001 was a non-stop, often live
reporting, of the on-going fighting. It made for a much more visceral
experience which led to many more people watching for much longer
periods of time, and I was just as guilty of falling into that trap as
the next person.

Memorable for its awfulness. Judy Woodruff happened to be in the building
so she got the assignment. And she was right there asking all the atheists
in the audience to pray for the people in the world trade center because
(she said) everybody knows atheists pray when things get bad.

CNN never recovered from 9/11.

I watched CNN until it became talkshows instead of news. I’ve been switched
over to headline, although it then eventually became talkshows instead of
news as well.

Not surprising, after all with the network only being news people
would tend to watch for ten to fifteen minutes a day and then get on
with their lives because the rest of the day's coverage would just be
a repeat. With talk shows they can fill more air time with what at
least appears to be unique coverage, even if there's no real content
included.

So true. The truth continues to have a liberal bias. Buttfucking
weasels like you and Pubie appear to be having a problem with this.

Agreed 1991 was primarily 3 major news events not 1 - but each of the
Gulf War, the Soviet coup and the final lowering of the hammer +
sickle on Christmas Day were extremely intense and dramatic.

(This isn't the version I remember - the CNN version was longer and
far more dramatic: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LZlscxH0_f4)

Yes I watched a lot of CNN on 9/11/2001 but between the 3 1991 events
definitely watched much more between them.

I didn't watch anything about the 9/11 attack on the day of the attack
or even for a couple of days after. But at the time I was working as a
programmer on and tech support for 911 dispatch systems so it wasn't
like I was unaware of what was happening....

In my case we had TVs set up in each of the labs as part of our
testing. So once people heard about the first plane crash they all
gathered around the TVs and we saw what was going on. Needless to say
it left an imprint on everyone for the rest of the day as everyone
went from thinking it was an awful accident to a realization that
these were actual attacks.

You missed Charlie Sheen being interviewed about how he watched both
strikes live and they were just small Cessna type aircraft and then for all
the recorded replays they used to CGI to make them look like airliners
instead.

You’d rather see Shiri Appleby, 17 months pregnant?

I remember that morning (we're on the west coast) quite well and my
aunt who lives 400 miles away called and said to "get the TV on right
away something big is happening in NY City" I told the missus to ask
her which channel and the response was "pretty much any of them I
expect!"
(To which my response to milady was "Hooooollllllyyyy SH*********!!")

At which point we got the TV on and watched coverage in stunned
disbelief until I had to go to work. Needless to say customers had a
lot more to say about NYC than usual and virtually none of it had to
do with shopping...

I was in Houston giving a presentation on how to detect counterfeit currency
to a roomful of Customs and Border Patrol officers when suddenly every pager
in the room started going off. (Yes, we still used pagers back then.)

When I finally found a free phone and contacted the field office, I was told
that New York City and Washington, DC were under terrorist attack and the
president was on Air Force One, heading to NASA's Ellington Field outside of
Houston and to report there immediately and rendezvous with military assets to
secure the airport for his arrival.

It turned out to be wasted effort because they changed course mid-flight and
landed at Barksdale AFB in Louisiana because there were broadcasting
facilities there that Bush could use to address the nation that Ellington
didn't have.
