It was a tight squeeze before
my mother died --my brother took over
her bed, leaving a small hollow
where his body sought comfort.

Now I sleep there after he died, but I don't need
much sleep, though I could always find
a way, whether at the mill, in a chair,
or couch or back in the shed
to find a bit of rest.

I always found a way to rest.

Is "rest" a synonym for slack off? How old is that bed and how many lumps does it have? Bed bugs? Cigarette burns and pizza stains?
