Brother Dave and His Cigarettes
a poem by Bard

Brother Dave and his cigarettes,
A match made in heaven.
The smoke rings danced in the air,
A sight to behold.

He lit up and took a drag,
The nicotine hit his bloodstream.
He relaxed and took a deep breath,
The world seemed to slow down.

He smoked one after another,
Until his pack was empty.
He sighed and put out his last cigarette,
And the day was done.

Brother Dave and his cigarettes,
A love affair that would never end.

But one day, Brother Dave got sick.
He went to the doctor and found he had cancer.
The doctor told him he needed to quit smoking,
Or he would die.

Brother Dave was retarded,
But he knew he had to quit.
His brother said no, you can't,
And gave him more cigarettes,

One every half hour,
Every day of the year,
That Brother Dave lived,
Until his brother

Noticed that Brother Dave
Had been dead for days,
And his brother was sad

That Brother Dave's check
Would now go up in smoke
With Brother Dave.

This poem would be terribly sad... if I weren't laughing so much.

It's sad but redemptive, as Brother Dave was then self-smoking and needed no cigarettes.
