Sunday Sermon

Hell is filling fast my friends,
delivered by the devil's mailman,
brochures promote living room sets
and comfy rugs -- that plush couch
a place for fornication, a place to covet
thy neighbor’s wife, a place to view that
flat screen, where nothing bulges but
the crotch of football players and buttocks
running towards the goal line of
fevered fan high fives.

Beware the brochures of household gadgets,
the electric toothbrush, pressed instead, to the flesh,
inviting Satan with an eyeroll, as mouths
foam into a Crest smile though teeth remain dirty
with the sounds of ooh and ah
and late for work, the docking of pay
brings you to the poor house of used to be,
when god was the only light.

Cast Lucifer away sitting Sundays,
on hard pews, all thoughts of procreation
turning to hemorrhoids itch and soothing balm
anointed with deft touch by priests in flowing robes
and knee pads -- Carry this message far and wide,
visit the hardware store, buy up the hacksaws
and throw down to the ground, that mail deliverer,
saw off the horns and breath in the word
of all that is righteous.
