It’s a simple life
of black coffee and wonder,
a magical life of make believe --
comic book panels
showing a brother's drool,
a friend's tarp erected
by a campfire for those that have long past
the Boy Scout oath.

The memories last
well into sixty years of breath,
of those that laid down, offering
painted stones and grunts,
those that pushed out offspring
and Taco wonderment.

Another cup is poured,
that check might be delivered today,
enters thought as the gizmo
awaits pudgy fingers bringing
the outside life inside
the office filled with spiders
and lies and dirty pants.

So complex, the simple life,
the daily hoisting the flag
of greatness over the fools that don’t
recognize a legacy was born,
before their very eyes.
