The Knock of a Realized Stranger

"Is it time?"
 
"Yes, it's time."
 
"One last wish,
take me to the boardwalk
before the journey,
take me below the shuffle
and Ferris Wheel and cotton candy,
where the sand is cool
where I held her
so long ago --
and the music playing,
was only for us."
 
And it remained there,
our names wrapped in a heart,
dug deep into the wooden piling
and I rubbed my hand over
the message of our together,
knowing I'd see her soon.
 
"I'm ready now."
