Down in the streets is where
truth lies, while above, looking down
at the blur removes the stench
of life -- white clouds,
closer than those puddles
below, create an umbrella
of complacency as the coffee perks
and toast is delivered through posh curtains.

Don’t be fooled, those outstretched hands
promising cure all, will never untangle
the knots of common worry, all eyes glancing
at the headlines of bullet holes
invading brains, cannot be caught with
iron shield promises.

You must have wallowed in the mud
to understand the mud, palms should show callous,
nails chipped from the dig, only then can you say
‘follow me, I feel your misery’, for that utterance withers
when thoughts of soaking in gold tubs high in the sky
outweighs hunger down below.
