River's Edge

I do pretend to enjoy the gurgle
but it has become the night/day call
rather than the spot where some go to
enjoy the trip away from it all.

It is now home, this place by river's edge, where getting out
once in awhile is looked for and I find myself looking
to go home, a place that has walls and security,
the gurgle silent, when sleeping.

How many times can I smile at my misfortune?

Some say I'm living life, but life should offer
more -- this has become a prison without bars,
the line for soup grows tired.

I tell you I sip wine under blue skies,
fish for supper and I say now, enough,
but too late.

Tomorrow I'll see if I can rake leaves
over at my friend's house -- he too,
captured by the want it, all but have none.

Looks like rain, best check my tarp
before this vacation land becomes mud.
