Even if there were, avocados, come in several different sizes and

Ours don't have you spell anything unless you want to. They have
alphabetical pictues that you scroll to and all different varieties are
pictured. And barcodes on individual fruit.

An "Add $2" button? :-)

Use two pictures, label one as "organic", and hope the customer is honest.

You can buy booze via an automated checkout?

Around here they have signs saying you can buy anything EXCEPT booze
(which isn't true since their pharmacy has their own cashier) and the
regular cashiers WILL ask for ID for anyone obviously not well over
the legal age.

(Of course then you get people like me who once while my lady was in
the restroom, slipped $5 to a waiter asking him to ask my wife for ID
- she was in her early 50s at the time. It was her birthday and our
waiter and I both had our money's worth from her reaction)

Each state is different. In my state only beer and wine is sold at
grocery stores and yes the self checkout allows you to scan it, then
signals the checker to verify that you're legal.

Hell, the liquor store is here will deliver via the grocery delivery
services. You just can’t get the contactless delivery where they leave it
at your door. I’ve never done it, but the app says you have to show the
delivery person ID.

Yeah, the pharmacy inside the grocery store has their own cash register but
now, so does the hot food section. At least they have signs for it that say
you have to pay there but they aren’t actually enforcing it yet. It will be
really annoying when I have to pay in 17 different sections of the grocery
store…

You seem to be assuming the customer can read. I think that’s a really bad
assumption. Of course the system is already assuming the customer can
write. I think that’s a really bad assumption as well.

Many years ago (as you’ll be able to tell from the price) I was at the
supposedly healthful foods store. My dad liked, which was just dreadful,
and they had dumped a whole load of avocados into two bins that adjoined
each other so it was just one big pile. The left side said $.30 the right
side said organic avocados three dollars. There were marked paper bags to
put them in and depending on which one you took that’s what you paid but
there was no discernible difference between the product.

Dad was forever buying the expensive steaks from there that smelled like
fish And I threw them out and he was always furious with me but I always
told him not to buy it in the first place.

That was one of those health food stores where everybody who worked in it
looked like they were in the late stages of radiation poisoning, emaciated,
poorly groomed, people Sucking on their loose teeth.

pick it up and then pay at the regular grocery line with the rest of
my groceries.

Yeah, that’s how it’s always been here. Oh, you have to pay at Starbucks

I'm pretty sure the Starbucks kiosks are some kind of leased space

Here we have the pharmacy as the only separate place to play. Then at
the local international store there's a coffee place inside where you
have to pay and there's a Korean food place in the back where you have
to pay plus the normal checkout up front for three places to pay.

It's not actual bacon if it's made from anything other than pigs.
