WESTERN WIND

Western wind, when will thou blow,
The small rain down can rain?
Christ, that my love were in my arms
And I in my bed again!

I shall not admonish Mr. Rochester for neglecting to include an original comment, or commentary, as Jordy Creepy Uncle has made hundreds of such posts.. Perhaps it's time for others in this group to give him and his Donkey a taste of their own medicine (or, as our resident dunce would have it, Tit for Tat).

That said, I have loved this poem for the past 800 years, and often refer to the Western wind in my poetry as a reference both to it and to the more familiar poem by Shelley.

In literary tradition, the West wind brings the spring, and in doing so, symbolizes fertility, rebirth, renewal, fertility, lust and love. In Shelley, it doubles as a symbol of the Romantic human spirit -- individual, rebellious, and free.

I consider this troll a success, Michael rising to the surface, snatching, playing with and once again revealing his true travel through 800 years.

I'm reading a book, "The Handbook of HEARTBREAK" 101 Poems of Lost Love and Sorrow, collected by Robert Pinsky. "WESTERN WIND" starts the introduction, with comment by Pinsky. Michael has captured Pinsky's thoughts, which surprises me not.

Thank you, Michael, for keeping hope (and poetry) alive in this place of barren thought.

We would claim that we have loved it for the past 1000 years, as it was in this form when our bf sang it to us:

Is this a sailor's poem? The westerlies would bring them back home...

What was this I seen... MMP dating himself? (love it for the last 800 years)

I have broke free from my anchor
finally slipped free from its hopeless mooring
freed to drift where fickle currents will take it
to those desperately hoped for fabled sun blessed shores
My bed will be where my head finally rests
where I had laid my future hopes to rest

They carefully push me under the surface, into the darkness of forgetfulness, lull me into the stillness of that endless restfulness. Will they be able to retrieve me from the chilling undertow of that final dreadfulness?

Sometimes I say the damnest things when they bring me back, like "Do think that I'm ungrateful that you woke me up."

Relieved of earthly burden, my soul will find itself alone, finally freed of the discordant existence we all have sown.

Archenemy, supreme you say you reign
So snuff out this feeble flame, wash away this human stain
Grant this dreadful wish, fulfill this gnawing emptiness
