It seems Norman Lear has died at the age of 101.

https://toronto.citynews.ca/2023/12/06/norman-lear-producer-of-tvs-all-in-the-family-and-influential-liberal-advocate-has-died-at-101/

The man was unquestionably influential in television but I'm not sure
it was always in a good way. While his heart may well have been in the
right place, he seems to be one of the early champions of what we
nowadays call "woke", which doesn't seem like a very good thing at all.

He repeatedly broke barriers of discourse ...nearly always a good thing.

It's the Trump Silly Season, breaking racial and other societal
barriers "doesn't seem like a very good thing at all" to the
anti-wokester jokesters.

Hollywood has always been superior than thou. Social conscience crap
goes back forever.

What can we count as the very first "very special episode"?

The episode where we first heard the toilet flush and learned that
Archie Bunker had to answer the call of nature just like everyone else?

Lear avoided casting Bob Crane in anything, even though Crane had huge chick ratings.
