School Bell's Ring

'Coward's all', he yelled
as shell casings ejected,
spinning off hot
into smoky air.

Red appeared,
soaking through
the fresh washed
first day
button down.

Red, cast off
onto blackboard --
a poor man’s Pollack
framed in chalk white.

Red drained
down test tubes,
clouding the lens
looking down
at specimens.

'Coward's all’, he yelled
before the last round
punched a hole
into a temple of hate.

A last casing
rolling and coming to rest
by the final walk
in the new day.

'My thoughts and prayers
go out to the families'
hit the evening news
as mops cleaned up
another day of higher
education.
