Since you were a bit slow on the uptake let me make it very clear.
People are voting against Trump. It's much like during the
Trump-Hilary campaign. While I'm sure she had some supporters I think
more voters for Hilary were actually anti-Trump voters. Four years of
Trump made it easier to get more people to vote against him.

I voted against both of them. I didn't want Hillary to be president and
I didn't appreciate the end run around term limits in the constitution.

Canada has a long standing record (going back to the 19th century) of
immigrants tending to become lifelong voters of whichever party was in
power at the time of their arrival.

It was one of the reasons I was terrified at our wedding reception
since it was less than one month before the 1984 election (between
elections it probably would have been a non-issue but that close to
the vote?) and my grandfather was a 2 time federal Conservative
candidate (and constituency chair) while her uncle's brother was a
sitting Liberal front bencher who took time away from campaigning to
attend our reception (though he missed the actual wedding).
Fortunately my mother ALSO had a long-time family friend who had been
a high ranking civil servant in Ottawa in the ministry where the MP
was the parliamentary secretary and had known my mother and
grandfather from childhood. The 3 of them got on like old bandits!

I don't know if it's still true but at that time 80+% of people in the
Toronto area of Polish, German or Italian origin were hard core
Liberal party voters....and as Rhino knows there are still a lot of
Polish, German and Italian surnames in the Toronto area.
