Raise a Glass

And so they remain in darkness,
the masks of flesh removed revealing
jagged holes through bone --
the last contorted twist of anquish
on the mouths that once whispered goodnight
to a sleeping child.

From musket to atom, we toss
brutality and now the ground holds
all the dried tears and ribbons attached
to a dormant sleep.

Shout your displeasure -- those that fought,
has made it so.

Bitch at your neighbor, the dog they walk
pisses on your green carpet and after the dinner tables
are cleared, raise a glass to the ones that lost everything
in battle.
