The assholes lose! The assholes lose!

Remember way back when, not even a decade ago, Democrats used to be
recognizeable as Democrats. They weren't appeasing the instincts of
socialists under the guise of winning the youth vote, which would drive
older voters out of the party.

In 2022, New York was one of the reasons why Republicans retained the
House with a narrowed majority. Why? There were four House districts in
New York that Biden won, that Democrats should have been competitive in,
but weren't.

Why? Appeasement of the socialists and voters voting Republican in
reaction.

New York 3rd was one of those districts. It's largely upper middle
class, largely suburban plus parts of Queens, and because of New York,
it's full of Jews. These are older, more conservative Jews, who support
Israel. But everybody INCLUDING REPUBLICANS took New York 3rd for
granted in 2022. Biden won in 2020; Republicans failed to vet George
Santos. Democrats didn't take the election seriously enough to use
opposition research against Santos.

But the voters were pissed and many voted Republican -- especially older
conservative Jewish voters in Great Neck -- leading to Santos's victory.

How do you get Jews so pissed off they'll vote Republican?

With Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez elected from New York 14th, a neighboring
district in Queens that also includes a piece of the Bronx. But she's a
symptom of which voters Democrats are trying to appease, versus, I
dunno, winning votes. She's now in her third term and was re-elected
from the new 14th after redistricting.

Tom Suozzi was the three-term member of Congress from the old 3rd, which
was parts of Nassau, Queens, and Suffolk. He did not run in the new 3rd
in 2022, parts of Nassau and Queens. He ran for governor instead.

He ran a practical political campaign without pissing Republican-leaning
voters in the constituency, by promising compromise. When they attacked
him in being soft on the border, he fought back by being more direct on
border issues and acknowledging that it's a bad situation.

Also, he's pro Israel. This is important in a state with 2.2 million
Jews. New York City has more Jews than the combined population of
Tel Aviv Jerusalem. The Democratic Party in New York forgot how
important this was.

I don't think this race says much about the rest of the country that
isn't largely upper middle class, but it suggests a strategy for what
might work so Democrats are competitive in those three other districts
in New York.

So the voters wanted to overcome the stigma of stupidity of electing the guy who was expelled.
