"To monkeys' vows and swearing *
Henceforth no credit give;
You may give them the hearing,
But never them believe."

IOW, don't trust, verify.

* - the printed version of the poem says "To maidens' vows ...". However, armchair literary critic Dr. Nas T. Goon has discovered that George Dance travelled back in time and changed the wording.

What are you whining about now, Baby Monkey?

One doesn't need to travel back in time to make errors. You make more than your share of the same every day.

Ooh, "Monkey." That's very original, Michael; where could you have got it from?

> One doesn't need to travel back in time to make errors.

I would have had to travel back in time to make most of the "errors" you Bandar-Log have been clattering about this week.

Fortunately, I'm taking Wither''s advice -- giving you a hearing, and checking out whatever you're clattering about, but taking your word for none of it.

> You make more than your share of the same every day.

When I confirm that NastyGoon found an actual error (of fact, not of style) I'll fix it. To anyone but a troll, that would be the end of it.

Exactly, to anyone but a troll

My esteemed colleague noted how you behave like the baby monkeys who were raised in social isolation.

As per usual, I find her diagnoses to be startlingly accurate.

> > One doesn't need to travel back in time to make errors.

No, Baby Monkey, you wouldn't. Unless you believe that you are capable of time-traveling, your statement would preclude your having made the errors that my esteemed literary colleague has pointed out.

> Fortunately, I'm taking Wither''s advice -- giving you a hearing, and checking out whatever you're clattering about, but taking your word for none of it.

Why should a hearing be necessary, Baby Monkey? An error is an error is an error.

You're becoming more of a donkey every day.

So, more lies from the troll Nancy Gene.

No surprise there.

Pay attention, Donkey.

George "BM" Dance unknowingly published an editorially altered version of the poem from an inaccurate source.

NancyGene (who knows how to do a little research) informed him of his error..

Now George is going into his Baby Monkey dance and pretending that it isn't an editor's job to check the accuracy of his sources. And, in typical Dance fashion, he's resorting to his patented form of Dunce Logic to claim that since he is only repeating another editor's changes, he cannot be said to have changed the original text. As Dunce Logic dictates, he would have to time travel back to the Victorian Era when the original changes were made for the poem's inclusion in a school primer to have changed the text. Somehow his perpetuation of the schoolbook editor's changes is thereby negated.

Well, the above was a parody; but they've pulled that stunt twice now. If they've trolled five poems (I've lost count), that's 40% of the total.

I see Michael Monkey tried to tell you about the first one ("An April Day") but he sounds in a bit of a tizzy tonight, so I don't think his explanation was very clear. But I'll copy in my explanation from that thread.

NastyGoon found a modernized version of the poem, and decided to call the modernizations "errors" just because they thought I'd made them. As I pointed out, not only were they not errors, but since the poem was modernized at least 125 years ago there's no way I could have made them.

When I told NG that, and asked them to retract their false claims, they decided to stand by them; they're still insisting that I made the very same so-called "errors" that appear in that book from 125 years ago. Since I'm not that old, the only answer is a Time Machine.

That reminds me of the very first Jack Kerouac story I saw in a high school English textbook, from around 1974-75, during the time when Kerouac was still mostly out of print on mainstream book stands except for "On The Road" and "Dharma Bums" and almost none of my teachers had even seemed to have heard of him (Dan Barfield didn't begin teaching until a couple of years later).

The story was "Alone on a Mountaintop", which I'd read earlier in the Lonesome Traveller collection available at the local library, but the version in the English textbook was strange, all of Kerouac's unique style was "cleaned up," all the dashes and long, winding sentences "corrected."

At the time I mostly sneered at what the "English teachers" had done to Jack Kerouac's poetry and style, and probably tossed the book aside.

Now, nearly fifty years later, I wish I'd kept that book, which was probably thrown out of the classrooms decades ago.

One of these days I'll look around the web and see if anyone else remembers that strange "corrected" Jack Kerouac story.

Like I said: Dunce Logic.

The fact remains that the modernized version from a primer was *not* the original poem. You neglected to mention that you were "publishing" a modernized version, because you had failed to both with doing the necessary research, and thought you were posting the original.

In short, you f**ked up.

Again.

Yes, Pendragon's definitely in a bit of a tizzy this morning.

Yes, Michael: modernized versions of poems are not the original versions; that's what "modernize" means:
modernize
transitive verb: to make modern (as in taste, style, or usage)
https://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/modernize

You neglected to mention that you were "publishing" a modernized version

Lying Michael, you've admitted that you don't read PPB (which means you didn't read the Wither post). Why are you trying to tell me what I "mentioned" or not?

I failed to both what, Michael?

As I've explained to you before, Lying Michael: even real psychologists can't read minds, let alone "armchair" ones.

So Michael Pendragon is shown to be a delusional liar again, what a surprise.

So funny, I saw the title and my brain filled in for me: "George Whiner on the Bandar-Log"

Dunce would be so screwed if there wasn't a Kipling for him to steal from!!

Pity. George Whiner is the probably the funniest thing the Asstroll has come up with in his time here, and it turns out to have been by accident.
> Dunce would be so screwed if there wasn't a Kipling for him to steal from!!

Kudos to the Asstroll for discovering Kipling. At least there'll be no more faux pax like this one:

Aapc member: "Tell me, Dr. Wurthing: what is your opinion of Kipling.?"
Asstroll: "I don't know; I've never Kipled."
