I don't think there's ever been any question that the majority of people are illiterate. I believe that George (or whoever you're quoting) is mistaken about the number of pissbums, though. Only about 5.8 million Americans are unemployed, which translates to 3/5%.

That is a shame, I don't know how I'd be able to carry on with reading my poetry and prose...
