One of the best coming out poems ever written. The clever diction perfectly captures the conflicted thoughts of a young closeted gay man on the precipice of self-discovery and acceptance during the heady late 70's pre-AIDS anything goes club scene that existed even in sleepy Columbus, GA.

Yes, as clear a reference to being gay as we have ever read. It's not well-written, but it does strongly announce that the author is queer and looking. According to Urban Dictionary, "Easy Street" is a "Place where guys fuck each other in the butt, while wearing gay-pride clothes." The title announces what is "coming." How plainly these lines, addressed to a male (temporary) lover by another male, make the situation clear: "Keep it stiff, Act real bright, You're so fine, Just like a sign." The rhymes are "deeply" personal.
