In keeping with the 1940's contest presently underway on here I
thought I'd tie in with a list of my favorite 1940's movies in a

ago

White Heat (1949)

The Maltese Falcon (1941)
The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre (1948)

Very good list, though I'd rearrange it some with "The Maltese Falcon" at the
top, and my top ten would include "Citizen Kane" (1941) and "The Bicycle
Thief" (1948), with "The Third Man" (1948) below, and somewhere near the end
of the list would be "Abbott And Costello Meet Frankenstein" (1948).

I loved Abbott & Costello as a kid and I still have a soft spot for
them now even tho their movies have totally dried up on UK TV and
they're never seen on screens here now. Not even that "Frankenstein"
one which is IMO their best and funniest. "Buck Privates" (with that
great "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" cameo from The Andrews Sisters) is
great too

BTW I forgot a terrific Hitchcock that should have been in in my
list---1942's "Saboteur" with Bob Cummings and Priscilla Lane (the one
where the guy falls off the Statue Of Liberty at the end)

All films listed are above average to great! Too bad Roger Ford thinks Orson Welles sucked)

Anyway, I have a little known treasure that I deem a personal cult favorite of the era,
"Moonrise" 1948 with Dane Clark and before she tragically ruined herself, one of the prettiest actresses that ever graces these cine- struck retinas, Gail Russell, baby!!

My love of 40s and 50s music does not translate to a love of anything else from that era. I am not a big fan of movies from back then, or the clothes or hairstyles, or really anything other then the music from then, although I do have a couple of huge favorite TV shows from the 50s.

My all time favorite movie is from 1988, "Dirty Rotten Scoundrels," with Michael Caine and Steve Martin.

It's nowhere near the Caine/Martin masterpiece. It doesn't even have the surprise ending when Caine and Martin turn out to be conned by the Jackal. In "Bedtime Story" the girl really is some innocent. No way Brando is a comedic actor.

By the way, it was also remade recently as "The Hustle" with the women being the cons and a man playing the role of the innocent victim who turns out to be conning them.
