When I Fall In Love - Doris Day w. Percy Faith's Orch [Columbia] -
1952

BRG: Doris is my absolute fave singer, and I just adored everything
she did. {When I Fall In Love is} my absolute all-time fave song:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QIoqkIk8G7g

(the song is from the 1952 romantic war film "One Minute To Zero";
it appeared on many adult pop albums 1959-1962)

BRG: I've heard four versions of that song; I'd rate Doris's #1,
The Lettermen's #2 {- 1961, BB #7 in 1962},
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RGWJ3lFvSaY
Cole's #3 {- 1956},
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E6mz5V9WECc
and Perry Como's #4 {- 1958;}
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GunFUdgEDnw
but I like all four of them a lot and even Como's, which I ranked 4th
of the bunch, was a great record

At the time, in 2003, Roger's fave version was Cole's.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Other worthy versions, which BRG may not have been aware of,
in order of year of release:

First recording of the song:
Jeri Southern w. Victor Young AHO [Decca 28224] - 1952
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R1mI8qORir8

Peggy Lee - Radio Recordings - 1952
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i9y3uHaIjmo
lovely vocal, the tinkling piano co-stars

Miles Davis Quartet - 1956 album (instro)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1JzpLx0Ajxk
"perfect music for a chill"

Eydie Gorme [LP ABC-P 'Eydie In Love'] - 1958
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4GkGIaXqLlw

The Trickles [Power 250;b-side;NYC] - 1958
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkQhAcB4MkI

Julie London [LP Liberty 'Your Number Please'] - 1959
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pi8QWdlnvK0

Polly Bergen [LP Columbia 'My Heart Sings'] - 1959

The Skyliners [LP Calico 'The Skyliners'] - 1959
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJxyaYPOsfU

Sandra Dee [Decca 31042] - 1960 {a nice version!}
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s4Nso_ZqdAQ
one time beautiful wife of Bobby Darin

Dinah Washington [LP Mercury 'Unforgettable'] - 1960
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aDvwittttQM

Mindy Carson [W & G b-side] - 1960
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pEByAKmEkEk

Marv Johnson [LP UA 'Marvelous Marv Johnson'] - 1960

Alma Cogan [UK Columbia] - 1961
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nvx_iMDMrNg

The Barry Sisters [LP Roulette 'We Belong Together'] - 1961

The ONLY thing notable about him is his initials, BRG, same as an actual notable member here.

Bruce R. Gilson was posting here in 1998 when I first arrived. He was a
traditional pop fan and IIRC rather ornery about it, didn't like R&R or
R&B.
I began to suspect that he was a prison inmate, because he used to make
references to only being able to use the computer at certain times of
day. Never did find out.

Yes, I wondered about that too. IIRC I think I srtarted here just
before you but I recall him having a real aversion to all things R&B
including Fats Domino. He even hated the more "pop" orientated things
that Fats did like "Blueberry Hill".

Some of his dislike came,he said, from "the way r&b singers "bend"
their notes and "twist" their lyrics". But OTOH he liked Sinatra as I
recall...go figure!

But even tho he championed "pop" here (long before Scarlotti and
Sharx) he also hated Johnnie Ray with a passion!

Ray was likely too emotional (or too gay) for him.

In my early days with this group, our main pop jerk-off called himself "Hit Parade." I think his real name was Ed York. He came up with childish nicknames for us all; mine was "Puppy." With any luck, he's dead now.
