Several years ago, I made a bunch of doo-wop playlists on my iTunes. Each one contained 150 songs that went chronologically from the late 1940s - early 1960s.

Last night, I listened to one of those playlists. Starting with 1958, the white groups began to proliferate. It was also at that point that I began to frequently employ the "skip" option.

I hadn't listened to those playlists in quite some time. Clearly, when I made them, all those white groups sounded OK to me. But last night, they were like fingernails on a chalkboard! (Remember those?)

Clearly, my tastes continue to shift.

You'll know they have fully matured when you start to gag if you hear things like "Sherry" and "Dawn" and especially "Candy Girl."

The only 2 that I still like, and the second one is because he doesn't do any of that annoying falsetto of his.

The Seasons share my #1 favorite white group of the 60's spot with The
Beach Boys. I liked practically all the songs above when they were out
and that hasn't diminished one iota over the years since.

So I guess you prefer the Seasons to any of the British groups?

Speaking of not diminishing, is there any stuff that you used to like a lot, but now you don't like at all? Or vice versa, things you disliked back then but now really like?

For instance I hated "Oh Happy Day" when it was a hit in 1969 and I was 11-12 years old. Also did not like adult sounding things from that time, like "Only The Strong Survive." Now I like both of those a lot, and "Only The Strong Survive" is a 10 and one of my top favorites of 1968. I liked most of Four Seasons hits at one time, but now most of them get like a 4 or a 5 at best. The singing is not very good IMO, and the style is very hokey. The bass singer blows, he's one of those phony white bass singers with a put on forced bass voice.

I got over the Four Seasons some 20 years ago. I was referring to the early '60s white doo-wop sound in general, especially when violins are present.

But do you gag now when you hear those things?

I used to like things like "Chantilly Lace" and "Rockin' Robin" among
others which I find very maudlin and mundane today
