The UK Parlophone single of this goes straight into the song as per
the original US Beltone 45

So where does the extended version (with the "Baby..baby...you did
something to me..." opening) come from?

Later releases where they left it on. I don't think it was ever released in the 60s.

I first heard it on the Rhino CD, "Billboard's Top Rock & Roll Hits of 1961," circa 1990.
