It's not about recording late. It's about staying up late trying to
write -- in this case a song, but it could be about trying to write
anything creative.

Some of the lines, "Flashing lights against the sky," "Spinning room is
sinking deep," and "Should I try to do some more?" indicate the
speaker's on acid, but of course that's not spelled out.
