I could never get into Elvis (his style is before my time), but that's an entertaining blog post. And I think I've said this before, but the house in which that guy grew up so reminds me of the Los Angeles I knew as a kid, though I was in North LA.

Now to digress a bit, there are conflicting accounts as to how successful the Beatles' meeting with Elvis was. Goldman says Lennon quipped, "Where's Elvis?" when the meeting was over.

Paul McCartney puts a positive spin on the meeting, and says that he notiiced the bass guitar at Elvis' side, and said, "Well, let me show you some things." How likely is this? I've read that, when McCartney dropped in on Jefferson Airplane in the Haight in 1967, he thrilled everybody with his presence and copy of "A Day in the Life." However, McCartney couldn't play Jack Casady's bass because it was right-handed.

He was no doubt disappointed when a 30-year-old Elvis showed up instead
of a 20-year-old Elvis. Time marches on, compare '64 Beatles to '69
Beatles.

George has remembered (not surprisingly) they were all stoned when they
showed up at Elvis' house, and that he has no specific memory of a jam
session. Who knows if they had a left-handed bass ready in anticipation
of Paul, maybe he was able to get by with a right-handed bass.

George also says he met Elvis again in 1972 backstage at Madison Square
Garden and he was disappointed it was a '70s Elvis who performed with
"horrible trumpet players" and not a '50s Elvis with a bare-bones band.
