Unfortunately not the best recorded
sound, not even for 1973. Curiously,
Melmoth does not seem to remember
him, or any other French pianists other

Unless he was priested, he will be Frere Thierry rather than Pere Thierry, surely?
I'm sure he's a much better pianist than Pere Gustave, rogntudjuuu!

I'm fond of this de Brunhoff set, which I have on CD -- I hadn't noticed a sound problem. I find it very pleasant to have in the air -- when he's playing I enjoy listening to a whole Cd of 10 nocturnes. I haven't warmed much to other things I've heard by de Brunhoff, and I believe that this Nocturnes recording was his last.

Pogorelich has released an op 48/1 -- a pre-release of his new Chopin recording, the rest due later this month. By coincidence I heard it this morning, and I couldn't resist also hearing a couple of other op 48/1s I remembered enjoying in the past -- Sofronitsky and Pletnev. I also listened to de Bruhnoff. I don't think he's quite as special as Sofro and Pletvev.

As a complete set there's only one other I remember enjoying as much: Jan Smeterlin's.

(As I'm typing this I'm listing to de Brunhoff play op 37/2, and Henck's comment above came to mind -- there's something if not "mystical" going on, then something very peaceful and intense. That's mystical enough for me! )
