Thanks! These are interesting choices.
For operas, do you take into consideration
the soloists? Or do you value production,
conducting, orchestras and recording
more than the sopranos?

It seems to me the versions listed above
do not have absolutely the best voices.

Frankly, when I bought the versions I did, I bought them based on reviews I had read. I find the voices excellent, if not the most famous singers around. But excellent nonetheless. I think, listening, I notice the orchestra and the conducting most. I look for vigor and sparkle. For example, I have the Callas "Norma" (several different ones) and I always liked them. But then I got the one with Bartoli and it blew me away with its theatricality, verve and character. Callas seems just static and dull in comparison. Voices notwithstanding.

Among those I've heard, I think my strongest concurrence would be Tuckwell.

Strongest dissent = Bohm for Zauberflote, admittedly an imprint.

I have the Bohm. Never seemed "special" to me. Don't know why. A lot of people particularly like the Klemperer recording. I've never heard it.

I love Figaro. Currentzis is pretty mainstream, to these ears. Not outlandish. Crisp and alert. A bit fastish, but in a good way.
