Mine is "Ancient Voices of Children". I have the recording with Arthur
Weisberg and the Contemporary Chamber Ensemble. I also had the pleasure of
hearing it performed live by members of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra with
Zubin Mehta conducting.

My own favorite is "Night of the Four Moons", based (like "Ancient
Voices of Children") on Garcia Lorca poems, for mezzo-soprano, alto
flute doubling on piccolo, banjo, electric cello and percussion.
Typically for Crumb, they all make sounds you've never heard before.
It was composed during the Apollo 13 moon mission in 1969 and
expresses Crumb's ambivalent feelings toward it.

Part of the work's appeal, as with many Crumb pieces, is visual;
in this case he conjures up the shade of Haydn's "Farewell" Symphony.
At the end of the last song, the mezzo and three of the four
instrumentalists depart the stage, one by one, each hitting a suspended
finger chime on the way out, leaving the cellist to play a sort of
continuous drone. The others reassemble offstage to perform a Mahlerian
vocalise fragment, three times, until the cello fades out, ending the
work.

Which recalls an anecdote. One night at Swarthmore College - this was
probably about 20 years ago - the performers got to this stage of the
music and began their procession - except that someone had pulled the
stage door shut,locking it. The unfortunated cellist had to keep playing
and playing while the conductor gazed through the window, trying to get
someone's attention to open the freaking door so that they could finish
the performance. Eventually someone did and they did. Crumb, sitting in
the front row, was probably more amused than annoyed.
