Handel: L'allegro, il Penseroso ed il Moderato (McCreesh c.s.)

The Herreweghe CDs, on HM's Musique d'Abord budget label, are black and
look like small gramophone records. No idea how that can work in a CD
player.

CD players read the bottom, not the label side. I've seen a similar look
here and there.

Yes, I know that. However, the whole disc, top and bottom, looks like
it's made of black plastic. Unlike conventional CDs, the discs don't seem
to have a reflective, metallic layer.

No. I do not listen to the orchestral
versions, and I do not own any of
them. Iberia is quintessentially a
work for the piano. There is no
point in orchestrating it.

Listened to several pianists discussed in The New Records of 1950: Sheyne in Scriabin's Sonata #10, Loyonnet in Schumann's Humoreske, Rey Lev in her arrangement of a Vivaldi-Bach concerto, Erno Balogh in Bach's Inventionen and Kathleen Long in Faure's Ballade.

Rey Lev could have been a contemporary performer. The others excelled in thoughtful piano playing.

While today most contestants in a competition sound more or less the same and play the music more or less the same way, the differences between these five are remarkable.

That's the chamber music series, right? (Soon to be boxed as a 5-CD
set. The two I have are delightful.) But for the piano music, Naxos
uses a different pianist (unfamiliar to me).

Yes. I have the whole series individually. They are extremely enjoyable.

From the Bach Guild Big Schubert Box, the adopted overture and (complete?)
incidental music to Rosamunde. The performance seems heavy-handed in
places, but there is a lot of good music here which is not often
encountered (not in the usual suites). Are there alternatives?
