A bit too slow at the beginning, Currentzis has some very good ideas. He isn't exactly a clown, but needs to pause less, so as to get some momentum and flow going. Haven't heard it all. One of the greatest pieces written in the 20th century imho.

He does seem to have very set ideas, which one might expect from any conductor, only more so. Like HvK he operates in a fully enclosed bubble of self unawareness and importance, fully impervious to outside influence. Conductors can be weird.

Reminded me of the story (which comes in different versions) of an
orchestral player--in the version I've heard, it was oboist Bruno Labate
to Otto Klemperer, who had gone on at length--"Mista' Klemps, you talka'
too much."

The Mr Klemps story, as I recall, happened with the NYPO.

From memory, Paul Paray was another big "talker" and during a rehearsal with the Chicago SO, someone finally piped up and said, " You conduct it,... and we'll play it !!!". Paray was furious and never conducted them again, saying they were nothing but a bunch of "gang-stairs".
