I like Bruckner as much as Haydn, but Haydn does often make me smile. Bruckner not so much.

Yes I have laughed out loud at a few moments in Haydn eg Symphony 93 with the famous bassoon, how shall I say, fart sound!!! As I said he always surprises me Randy

Oh, that's just no contest. Bruckner wrote ten or eleven symphonies.
Haydn more than a hundred symphonies, plus at least fifty splendid string quartets, 43 (if I recall) piano trios, a whole bunch of piano sonatas, it just goes on and on.

specially Szell's recording, which is undoubtedly over the top, but
still wonderful. I can't imagine that even the bluest-haired audience
wouldn't laugh out loud at that moment.

Since I just got the big Szell box I'll give a listen - and perhaps Beecham for a more demure fart????

Yes, his industry and inventiveness are unparalleled. Is Jammes Brown
was, as he claimed, ":the hardest working man in show business", Haydn
was every bit his equal in CM.

To the original question, I'd say 6-8, 22, 39, 44, 45, 48, 60
(especially David Blum's recording if you can find it), 63, and 70. I'm
sure I'm omitting some that deserve inclusion, but those come to mind
OTTOMH.

I believe actual period performance practice calls for a real fart. Choice of animal depending on what is available. As a last resort the conductor himself contributes.

So when someone calls a conductor an "old fart" they may actually be referring to performance practice!!!

To answer the original question in the subject, a great place to start
is the Big Haydn Box from Amazon. There's also a Big Haydn Symphonies
box, but it appears to be duplicate. In particular, those by the
Esterhazy Orchestra & David Blum are excellent. And you can't beat the
price, 14 hours and 5 minutes of Haydn download for a buck.

They are outstanding. With Szell's 93-98 and Woldike's 99-104, you've
got yourself a pretty good set of the London Symphonies. It's too bad
that both conductors didn't make the other half.
