It's just a grey prototype, and is likely missing some of the final details (remember when Masterpiece Starscream 2.0 didn't have a face?) but we can at least get an idea of the proportions and size (MP-10 shown for scale):

It's somewhat similar in appearance to Siege Jetfire, of course, because it's based directly on the Floro Dery cartoon model. But, it looks to be a fair bit larger.

I'm honestly surprised Takara is even acknowledging Skyfire at all, considering they were the ones who had insisted that Hasbro totally redesign the Jetfire cartoon model so that it didn't resemble the Jetfire toy at all. Takara didn't even air most of the Jetfire episodes as part of the Transformers cartoon until very late (like, after season three), because they had been waffling on whether to showcase the character at all or not.

Can't wait to see a full-color picture of this bad boy, as well as a price tag. I'm guessing he's going to be close to $300.

I took a photo of my Masterpiece Optimus MP-10 standing next to a yardstick, and imported it into PhotoShop to try to match it up, size-wise, with the Skyfire image. Making allowances for different photography angles and whatnot, it looks like Skyfire stands at around 15" in height at the head (total height would be closer to 16" with the backpack armor). By frame of reference, Siege Jetfire is only twelve inches tall.

It occurs to me that, much like Masterpiece Grimlock, this is one of the few Masterpiece toys that will also scale correctly with G1 toys. In fact, it would arguably scale correctly with neo-G1, given that Skyfire towers over just about everybody else in the cartoon.

If they're finally starting to think beyond Diaclone Car Robo and looking at different sizes of characters, then Masterpiece is about to get crazy in the next few years. Imagine if they did Masterpiece Constructicons (who would be about the height of Starscream in robot mode) or the rest of the Masterpiece Dinobots (I see this as an inevitability) or started knocking out characters introduced in The Transformers: the Movie (Hot Rod and Arcee are starting to get lonely).

Considering that they're only able to go for a cartoon model based look for this character, I don't think the final version is going to have much more detail at all. Live by the cartoon, die by the cartoon I say. I was liking MP Skids as it showed a bit of a change in direction towards a more toy accurate detailing, but they can't really do that here. Well congratulations, Takara, you've met your goal of bringing minimally detailed drawings to three dimensional life.

I've always felt the animation models don't translate well into toys and the best MPs blended familiar aspects of animation with callbacks to the original toy designs. Here we have straight animation model adaptation and boy does it look crappy as a toy. This looks like a prototype from the G1 days compared to the more modern MP-10. I wondered why they didn't use the more aesthetically comparable MP-44 to pose aside? Maybe this Skyfire's been in the works longer than Skids?

I think 400. Based on size I'd say near but not over MP-44's price. It won't be as complicated as M-44 but it'll be bigger.

If transformed G1 minicars fit in MP Skyfire's cargo hold that would be awesome and a big selling point for me. But I don't think it'll be THAT big. It would be cool if it could hold MP Ravage in its hand. I can't think of what accessories might come with this one.

That's so harsh! I really don't think we're looking at the final design. When Masterpiece Starscream was at this grey prototype stage, he didn't even have a robot face yet. I think what we're seeing here is a design that captures the basic geometry but does not have the final surface detail. Just looking at the Skyfire cartoon model, there are details on it that are missing from this toy design. The vents are missing on the bottom of each chest piece. There are panels missing from the feet and knees and other parts. I'm confident the final version will include these. If it turns out that I'm wrong, remind me of this and I'll eat my words.

There aren't really any iconic scenes of Skyfire holding a thing while doing a thing. His head will probably open up and have a memory monitor as per "Fire in the Sky." I honestly can't think of anything else. Maybe Takara will go full Marvel Comics and include a Buster Witwicky figurine. Now that would surprise the hell out of everybody!
