So Hasbro unveiled Goldbug today, but it's not the Goldbug we know and love:

I mean, the head sculpt is good. And I pre-ordered it, thinking that maybe I can spray paint the toy gold or something. But I probably won't actually do that. Because then it would bounce around in my toy box and get all my other toys all painty and goldey.

I keep telling myself this is good, though, because it's our first neo-G1 Throttlebot at the Deluxe (read: proper) scale. Roadburn was okay, but he was tiny. He did not represent John Warden's vision for correctly-scaled Transformers. So, this toy could potentially get a more authentic redeco some day as the actual Goldbug. (Or, conversely, they could use the Netflix Bumblebee toy and put this head sculpt on it, so he can actually turn into a Volkswagen.)

It also means that this same toy could potentially be reused as Chase and/or Freeway. It would require substantial remolding to serve as Searchlight, and they'd have to redesign it from the ground up to give us Rollbar or Wide Load. But, in a year or three, we might have a full set of neo-G1 Throttlebots—who knows? This is a good starting point.

Remember how long we all clamored for Apeface and Snapdragon, and we finally got them? This could be like that.
