Comparing it to a couple of other Brandenburg 1s, it does sound a little weird, but it could be my imagination.

It agrees with Casals, Scherchen, Ristenpart, Goldberg, Britten, Davison, Klemperer, Karajan, and Reiner, among those I just sampled. While almost modern HIP recordings are pitched lower (certainly all of my favorites: Fasolis, Rampe, Savall, Alessandrini and Café Zimmermann), Goebel moved to the traditional pitch in his more recent recording, starting lower with MAK 30 years earlier. Chailly in his recent-ish big band recordings stuck with the traditional tuning heard in this Abbado clip.

By the way, I'm curious if this performance lights anyone's fire. To my ears it is never better than correct, and the lack of ambiance/hall adds to the sterility.

I think it's at modern concert pitch. Some 17th century French stuff gets played at a=395 or thereabouts.

modern concert pitch, aka A = 440Hz.

It's a touch sharp compared to my Yamaha keyboard.

It's a close recording perspective. Nice enough on headphones but I
don't hear anything on a quick sampling that leads me to differ from
your opinion.

May be A equalled 430Hz in eighteenth century Brandenburg?

Any way Big D informs us that HIP is dead, so we won't have to put up with all this nonsense any more ...
