Haydn Symphonies

Last week my local FM station (which I listen to in my car) played a
performance of #103 by Marc Minkowski and The Musicians of the Louvre.
His "London" set was praised by some here about a decade ago. But
this was not for me. It opened with a weird drum-roll (more like a
drum solo - but I admit to ignorance of historical precedent), and the
main allegro seemed way too fast. I am not opposed to fast tempos pe se,
unless they go along with giving something up: in this case most of
the grace I expect from Haydn. I changed stations before getting
far into the work.

So that's not the Haydn I want to report on here. Rather: the SWR
7-CD collection of Rosbaud's Haydn. THe only Haydn I had previously
heard from him were the 92 and 104, with the Berlin PO, on DG. Neither
of these is in this set, which includes numbers 12, 19, 48, 52, 58, 65,
83, 87, 90. 93, 95, 96, 97, 99, 100, 102 and (tgwice) 104, along with
a disk of various concertos, all with SWR Baden-Badwn. The set also
includes a stereo #45 with Berlin. Overall I find this a wonderful
set, with transparent texture, well-chosen tempos (yes, even some fast
ones), and mostly pretty good sound (perhaps a few exceptions).
Standouts, just off the top of my head, included #52, 83, 87, 93, 102
(all great works to begin with), but not limited to those. This set
is very much to my taste, and I highky recommend it.

Note: there is still time left on August for listening to music!

I am preparing for my return travel to Sedna, as the bus
is just around the corner. It is an awfully long ride. One
needs to practice boredom in order to be able to make
it. What better way to practice boredom than to listen
to all the recorded performances of all of Boring van
Beethoven's piano works?

Well, You don't sound too creative to me if you cannot entertain yourself in such situations. if I am in that same situation, I have my phone loaded up with hundreds of albums of all types of music and thriller/suspense audiobooks, which I can listen to on headphones... while I play a large variety of puzzles as found on puzzlemadness.co.uk

I am never bored!

I am preparing for my return travel to Sedna, as the bus
is just around the corner. It is an awfully long ride. One
needs to practice boredom in order to be able to make
it. What better way to practice boredom than to listen
to all the recorded performances of all of Boring van
Beethoven's piano works?

One could also publish the list as an avoidance guide
for the benefit of a wider audience! ;-)

I don't doubt it for a second. I'm familiar with Sedona, but if there's a Sedna I have no idea where it is. Neither does Google.
