I remembered that Earl Wild had recorded No. 2 for Readers Digest, conductor Massimo Freccia, producer Charles Gerhardt with a top Decca engineering team, and the National Philharmonic - an 'ad hoc' recording band featuring top players from all the main London orchestras. The LP, with the odd click, is on YouTube with a comment under the video stating that this is the "definitive recording" ...

An excellent romp, reissued on Chesky CD along with other Wild recordings for RD. Inexpensive used copies are around, e.g. https://www.amazon.com/Grieg-Concerto-Saint-Sa%C3%ABns-Hungarian-Fantasy/dp/B000003GD8. Frankly speaking, I don't see much basis for choosing among many different recordings of these works. Any pianist who can play the notes in scintillating fashion with competent accompaniment is fine by me. I agree that Darré represents a benchmark for a complete set, but that's probably because I grew up with her recordings.
