I recall hearing Cherkassky in the early 70s at Warwick Univ. And I remember nothing abut it except the beauty of his playing.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Do you feel that his recordings do him justice?

I have heard very few recordings and none recently. My experience is that recordings do a poor job of conveying piano tone. (Or is it my hearing and stereo equipment?) But if you have a few suggestions of recordings that do a better than average job, please let us know.

The following concerning de Larrocha may also be of interest:

- A lot of the records she had made, de Larrocha said in 1976, sound beautiful, 'but they are not true', they did not capture the specific subtleties in tone quality she had worked to develop.
