I think you may be on to something here. However, the Rite is from 2008 and the other works from 2018, so they kept it in the vaults for some time.

I hope the future volumes cover Igor's late music too, especially the Variations, Agon, and the Requiem Canticles. It's a good set. Fine performance of the early Symphony in E-flat (originally and optimistically called "No. 1"); a work which, despite its mawkishness, I find very charming. The big ballets (Firebird, The Rite) were solid and hefty, if lacking that final spark audible in the various and sharply contrasting recordings by Muti, Gergiev, Ozawa, Ančerl, Svetlanov, Boulez (Columbia), Levine, Stokowski, and The Great One himself that remind one why otherwise genteel folks were driven to brawl with each other on one fine Parisian evening.

people did not like Nijinsky's choreography. That's what the protests were about.

The reason people got rowdy was at least as much because of the music. Taruskin was the one who popularized the notion that it was only the choreography which elicited protest, one of many of his assertions I happen to disagree with.

Thank you for sharing the info. I have only listened to the music on AppleMusic, and therefore, no notes. Will be buying the CD at the soonest.

His first Philadelphia guest appearance - perhaps 15-17 years ago - was the best debut I've seen from a young conductor in my decades of going to P.O. concerts.

It became clear at some point that the two most likely candidates to succeed Dutoit, who was the interim principal conductor for four seasons, were Jurowski and Yannick. If I remember correctly, Jurowski said he wouldn't be available until his LPO commitment was up, and he still had a few years left on his contract. The Orchestra was going through a financial crisis and couldn't wait that long to bring in someone who would put more people in the seats than Dutoit did. So YNS got the job. Initially, I was fine with that. In more recent years, I've changed my mind.

Well, you can disagree, but have you put in the same research?
Or is it just you like the myth that the Sacre's music drove Parisians crazy?
BTW Taruskin wasn't the first to come to this conclusion.
Nijinsky was in over his head and couldn't make the premiere work.
As a choreographer he was basically a one hit boy (Faun).
