It's a sincere question; I don't know the answer.

However, it's obvious to anyone who reads accounts of the 1973 Spector-produced Rock & Roll sessions with Lennon, the little guy was already bat-shit crazy, firing guns at the ceiling, having the performers do a single simple song over & over for four hours -- while attempting to cheat them out of overtime. When keyboardist Mike Melvoin pointed out to Spector that he was breaking union rules, Spector howled: "You motherfucking prick, you're fired!" Melvoin protested -- only to be approched by Spector's bodyguards, who patted their chests to indicate that Spector was armed.

Lennon attempted to smooth things over, telling Melvoin that Spector wasn't serious about firing him.

"John, he's fucking crazy! He definitely means it, And he's armed," Melvoin replied. Lennon managed to smooth things over and keep Melvoin for the duration of the session -- but that was the last Melvoin's work involving Spector.

Was Spector born with a tendency towards insanity and violence, only to be sent over the edge by the 1972 departure of his wife Ronnie --who snuck off surreptitiously in the night night with the aid of her panicked mother?
