Fun topic. But those possibilities (the guru was a fraud, the Beatles gained something from their time with him) aren't exclusive. I think we'd all agree that the guys got good songs from their stay in India.

Lennon's songs improved because he was off the drugs and he learned that fingerpicking technique from Donvan.

I'm keeping my eye out for a book by Judith Bourque called Robes of Silk, Feet of Clay. Bourque had an extended sexual relationship with the Maharishi when she was in her early 20s -- and he was in his fifties. Initially, she didn't realize she was being preyed on; he was "like a Jesus" to her and the relationship made her feel special.
