Owsley Stanley was a chemist and electronics wiz who went on to manufacture high-quality LSD and to found the Alembic musical instrument factory. In 1976, Steely Dan wrote "Kid Charlemagne" about him.

Before all that:

"In early 1964, Owsley got 'turned on' to the Beatles first album and LSD in the same week, he recalls. 'It was amazing. It all seemed to fit together. We had Meet the Beatles within a few days of it coming out. One of my friends who was a folkie brought it in and said, "Man, you gotta listen to this!" And I was off and running on it. I loved it.'"
