So, in 1988, Mick Jagger inducted the Beatles into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Jagger thanked the guys for giving the Stones one of their songs, noted the occasional rivalry but enduring friendships among the members of the two bands.

George Harrison and Ringo Starr appeared onstage -- along with Lennon's songs Julian and Sean. Yoko Ono, of course, also appeared -- in a notably bizarre haircut (her boyfriend's boyfriend was a hairdresser).

George had the best line of the night: "I don't have much to say, because I'm the quiet Beatle." He said something about Paul McCartney's absence being due to "business differences," while adding that he loved Paul anyway.

I could and probably will investigate the question online. However, does anyone know what exactly the business differences (if that was indeed the cause of McCartney's absence) were?

Harrison had a second good line: "It's a shame Paul's not here, because he had the speech in his pocket."

Incidentally, this was the same R&R HoF ceremony at which Mike Love of the Beach Boys had his freakish meltdown. He began by extolling his band's musical harmonies (which were created by Brian Wilson), then switched topics to preach about harmonious interactions between people. He then went completely off the rails, Donald Trump-style, and began challenging the "moptops," Mick Jagger, Bruce Springsteen and others to perform with the Beach Boys.. Jagger, he said, had always been "chickenshit" to perform onstage with the BBs.

Mikr Love outed himself as an ignorant hick -- as screwed up mentally, albeit in a different way, as his more talented cousin Brian.

And, of course, at the end of the show, Jagger and Springsteen did appear appear onstage with Love, totally overshadowing him with exuberant performances.
