However, is Lennon's answer to being called a dreamer ("I'm not the only one") really logical or compelling?

I do agree that Lennon probably did not have specific conflicts, such as those involved in the Olympics, in mind...simply peacefulness as opposed to war...

What we have seen happening in Ukraine is agonizing...it takes a lot of energy to try to sort things out.

I too find the 'dreamer, etc' line vague and wishy-washy... Martin Luther King had a dream, but it was specific.
Just the same, the 'dreamer' line works. It elevates the song to a place above the strife. It's just a suggestion, such as, if we were to daydream about what Ukraine would be like with everything resolved...

The war against Ukraine is horrifying. BTW, my ex and her sister live (I assume they are living) in Ukraine.

And we've got a lunatic ex-president who praises Putin, whom he has deemed "the peacekeeper" at every opportunity.

I think it's likely Lennon had the "Troubles" of Northern Ireland and the Vietnam conflict in mind with his peace campaign.
