Ahhh, but the distances do not necessarily make it
impossible for us to ever see/hear/receive a clear
message from them.

Possibly, but the vast distances still prohibit any kind of a usual
two way exchange.

Why in the world are you even thinking of
"a usual two way exchange" ?

If we receive a clear unambiguous message from
some alien advanced life, it will take us years
to digest and analyze that fact.

Human life will be changed by just that fact.

Most humans are too dumb to grasp the size of the universe. If they did
they'd soon realize we will never make contact with anything as they are
too far away.

Asimov's "My Son, the Physicist" provides a much better solution.

Only for a short period, until novelty wears off. Just like when we 1st
confirmed there were real exoplanets in 1995 so not just theory.

50 years ago if someone told you that you could get into an argument in real
time on something called an "internet" with people scattered anywhere in
the world.
Your answer would have been..........."No evidence" "Too far away, can't be
done"

Bit of a difference between boosting the existing telephone system and
traveling to stars or finding aliens.

Amazing how the whole point of this thread continues to be missed,
that distances are FAR too great for any practical travel between
stars, even in the very unlikely event of traveling near light speed,
or of any communications. All experience so far has confirmed this.

You mean,......SO FAR
It was not that long ago the same thought about being impossible was said
about beng able to travel at speeds of over 30 miles per hour......
Until it happened.

If I have missed the point that some people willl always refuse to believe
that limits are only something thet has not been figured out yet, then you
are right.

Wait until we discover that light actually can travel faster than "C", and
it's medium is actually the "stuff" we now wrongly call "dark matter".

I seem to remember, way back when, learning that people were to walk out
in front of stage-coaches with a lite lantern. So that limited the
coaches to, what, 5 m.p.h.!

Was that said by physicists, or by newspaper writers?

Not stagecoaches, but early motor cars, which in the early days had to
be preceded by a man walking with a red flag (so I have heard). It
might be worth noting that in fact, there were many people killed or
injured by horse-drawn carriages and wagons back when these were running
rampant in our cities. No red-flag men.

Nobel Prize winner Pierre Curie was killed when he was run over by a
horse-drawn cart in Paris.

Probably by the physicists. After they went to their doctors to get bled
with leeches to let out the bad ether gasses that made people sick.

We laugh at the past .
Just like hundreds of years from now people will laugh at how stupid society
would have been to think a thin cloth mask would keep them from getting
sick from a KOOF Virus, as they walked though the forests, miles from any
other human,......or as they drive in their cars on highways with the
windows up.

My mistake!! I did think of it being in front of cars .... but a walking
man just seemed toooooooo slow!! ;-P
