Dilbert: Feral Employees
https://dilbert.com/strip/2021-08-04

As usual, Scott Adams nails it. I wonder how many emails he gets a day
from people complaining about their jobs ?

“Big tech companies are at war with employees over remote work”
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2021/08/vaccines-reopenings-and-worker-revolts-big-techs-contentious-return-to-the-office/

“CEOs want workers back at their desks. Employees and the virus have
other plans.”

MANY. Hal used to work in the same Pac Bell building as Adams,
though they never met.

Yup.

Meg *has* to work on-site, because the lawyer's clients have to
meet in person to sign documents; but they've taken multiple
precautions and so far as I know, neither Meg, her boss, nor the
clients have come down with anything. Walkyr's workplace has
decided they're going to work remotely till further notice: he
did have to go in a couple days last week to help disassemble
some desks and get rid of some monitors that would no longer be
in use (he brought home a couple of them).

At this point I _can_ go in if I want to but I don't have to. It's
not clear if they'll ever start _requiring_ us to go in again.

Ideally, we would all get a choice, go in, or stay remote.

Remember when Nancy Leibowitz's .sig read, "I want to move to
theory. Everything works in theory."?

The world is not very ideal.

I've seen reports that a fair number of former office workers would be
willing to take /pay cuts/ to be allowed to continue working from
home.

And why not?
Less commute time == more personal/family time
Less commute expense == more money for other things
Less formal atmosphere == less money spent on "office clothes"
among, no doubt, many other advantages

Such as multi-zooming:
https://dilbert.com/strip/2021-08-02
making it much easier to hold down two jobs at once!
(Or, rather, in Wally's case, to not do two jobs at once.)

And not a few are quitting and seeking other employment, rather
than commute.
