Derrick J. Wyatt, best known to Transformers fans as the art director on Transformers: Animated, has passed on. It was his dynamic and memorable art style (also seen in the series Ben 10) that shaped the aesthetic of Transformers: Animated, and inspired countless fans to create artwork of their own, reimagining characters in his distinctive style.

It took a while to get used to, but his art was great. And 49 is
disturbingly young. Seems to have been a very friendly chap too, based on
fan interactions.

I think Animated was the last Transformers media that I actually
enjoyed. I acknowledge that it was flawed, like the human wannabe Batman
villains, but when it got it right, it got it right. I loved that some
G1 actors were brought back like Corey Burton.

I'll always prefer 2D animation to 3D.
