Jean-Efflam Bavouzet performed an all-Haydn program in Wigmore Hall this week, including the wonderful A flat sonata, nr 46 (in some counts).

For some reason he's playing a Yamaha which for all we know may have sounded great IRL, but on my end it sounds awful.

Performers requesting a Yamaha at the Wigmore need to give notice:
"The Hall will provide a Steinway model D grand piano tuned to A440. If a piano other than the Hall’s resident piano is required the Hall must be informed at least two months before the concert, in which case rental, transport and other related costs (including insurance) will be the responsibility of the promoter."

I'm not a fan of Yamaha pianos either, but some pianists like to play them. Hard to argue with Richter.....

"Sviatoslav Richter consistently favored Yamaha pianos. He first encountered a Yamaha piano in 1969 in Padua, Italy and first selected Yamaha CF at the Menton Festival in 1968. Richter again chose the piano for his concert at the World’s Fair in Osaka with a serial number of 1000000.2 He had both Steinway and Bösendorfer pianos during his life but only played on Yamaha grand pianos and was sponsored by Yamaha Japan."

It's obviously Bavouzet's piano of choice for music of Haydn's and Mozart's era.
Of course it's hard to judge the sound on this recording.
