I don't remember it being, though the GURPS splatbook gives years
for the start and end of the 'cold cycle' it's currently in, as
opposed to a 'warm cycle'. Could just be our regularly scheduled
glacial period, already in progress.

There is also the planet Ploor in "Doc" Smith's _The Children of the
Lens_ (while a single star system, Ploor has an eccentric orbit about a
star with extraordinary variability).

One of Anderson's Flandry stories, _A Circus of Hells_, takes place (in
part) on Talwin. Talwin's eccentric orbit leads to two intelligent
species time-sharing.

Possibly more extreme is Ploor from _Children of the Lens_. The Ploorans
vary from RTSLSTR... to TUUVWYX... to VWZYTSX... (fourth form not
stated) over the course of one Plooran year.

Isn't We Made It from Niven's Known Space stories also plagued by
extreme seasons? It's part of the joke that some of the worlds
that were designated as habitable by the automatic rambot probes
turned out to be somewhat less so, on closer inspection, when the
settlers arrived. See also Plateau.

Wasn't the fourth form straight Z's to several places, similar to a Palainian?

Driven by axial tilt, not a stellar companion.

Probably, but I couldn't find it in Chapter 24, where the other specs
were given. Multiple consecutive upper-case letters do tend to be
pretty obvious, too.

And just as Green Lantern, during the 80s, paid homage to Doc Smith by
introducing Eddore and Arisia as characters, The Aliens, a back-up feature
to the comic Magnus Robot Fighter 4,000 A.D. which started out with a
premise lifted from Murray Leinster's First Contact... revealed that the titular
aliens were Ploorans during its run.
